Recovery Road

I came across the Recovery Road tv show quite by accident. I was sitting down for lunch and decided to catch something on tv to relax for a bit before going back to more errands. Within the first 10 minutes I was having flashbacks. It is not a reality show but aspects of it could easily be autobiographical.

Scenes from my senior year in high school and freshman year in college quickly flashed in my mind's eye as a quick moving montage of my past. It was a painful look at myself in the last week of my using and my first few weeks on my own personal journey of recovery, but this time  from a clear-headed observer's perspective of someone with 30 yrs clean.

The identificaiton was both painful and full of gratitude that I don't have to be there ever again unless i choose to be. So very grateful for the freedom from the insanity of addiction AND early recovery.

The show is a must see and I'll definitely be tuning in to watch.

Today's featured Speaker

Today's Featured Speaker:
Kathy S. - Spiritual Awakening

Spiritually Refreshed

A friend allowed me to post the following thoughts he shared with me here.

Refresh: to make someone feel less tired or hot.

Refreshing: pleasingly new or different.

Spiritually refreshed and glad to be alive (mentioned twice in Step 12 in NA's Basic Text).

As I cycle through the 12 steps of NA I become aware of the changes in my belief system. And each time thru I further tweak or refine my belief system. In our Basic Text it says " Everything we know is subject to revision, especially what we know about the truth ".

I lived a lifetime of being misinformed by the misinformed. As a result, I lived a life of impending doom, based on delusional self-destructive information. The 12 steps helped me to examine my beliefs and offered me an alternative belief system. One that was spiritually rewarding, beyond my wildest dreams. So today I give back what was so freely given to me. The only condition I place on another is what was placed on me : I had to want this. An admission that is best expressed by action.

My behavior will always speak for itself. My desire for change is contingent on practicing the principles of our program. If I don't  practice or stop practicing, I can always revert back to the desperate dying addict who came in the rooms of NA. Yes the process can stop; either I'm working on something or something is working on me. My disease doesn't take days off.

Tanya's Story

journey2

I'm an addict in recovery and my name is Tanya. I remember when I first started thinking about getting into recovery I had no idea what recovery was. How do I do it? Where do I go, and when I get there, what will recovery be like? Will I magically just be in recovery? I imagined that recovery was some kind of fantastic destination and I was simply going to arrive there one day.
